|Kai Rostásy worked his way up from a trainee in at ARRI Camera Rental and Laboratory in Munich to a 2nd AC. As 1st Camera Assistant Kai spent the next 6 years working with many German and international DoPs on commercials and features such as K. Eichhammer ( “Die Apothekerin” directed by R. Kaufmann , “23” directed by H. C. Schmid ) and Jürgen Jürges (“Wege in die Nacht”, “Quiero Ser”).
In 2000 he took up cinematography studies at the University of Hamburg (Hamburg Media School). He finished the 2-year program with a diploma and the film „Die Katze von Altona” which won many festival prizes.
In 2002 he shot the semi-documentary feature film “Andiamo!” and in 2007 the low-budget feature film “Lunik” starring Anna-Marie Mühe and Torsten Merten.
In 2008 he gained experience as Operator (1st Unit B-Cam) on the Warner / Wachowski Bros. produced action film „Ninja Assassin” directed by J. McTeigue, shot at Babelsberg Studios. Followed by many 2nd Unit Dop and B-Cam engagements on films like “Die Unsichtbaren”, “Das Leben der Wunderlichs” amongst many others.
2012 his feature film “Für Elise” directed by W. Dinslage won the competition of the 8th festival of german films in Ludwigshafen a. R. and was released in the theater. Actress Christina Grosse was nominated for the German Film Prize Lola.
In 2020-21 he shot almost 100 viral sport clips and directed more than 30 for kids, who had to stay at home during the corona lockdown produced by the Alba Berlin basketball club.
Presently based in Berlin and member of the German Society of Cinematographers, bvk, Kai is shooting features, documentaries, commercials, corporate films and music videos.
